Walks

Lesvos is a large island, the third largest in Greece, and considerably under-populated. The infrastructure, especially the roads system has been steadily improving over the years. The island is refreshingly free of high-rise hotels and beach-orientated tourism and is seizing an opportunity to rediscover itself through ecotourism in its totally unspoilt countryside.

Panoramic views, enchanting landscapes, hidden valleys, vital wetlands, picturesque villages hanging on hill sides, traditional olive presses, water mills, stone bridges, ancient castles, ruined temples, mediaeval country chapels, thermal springs, volcanic terrain, colourful fishing harbours and waterfront tavernas serving wonderfully fresh and traditional cuisine - these you will find from one end of Lesvos to the other, irrespective of which direction you are heading, since they are all part of the island's fabric.

Over the last few years great efforts have been made, by many, to record and publish "walking trails" and maps ( mainly in the North and around Agiasos ) that will take you to such sites and landscapes, guaranteed to bring you nearer to nature and uplift the spirit and soul. However due to the size of the island you can't honestly say that all the possible walks and trails have been walked and discovered.

Therefore the South and East Lesvos with "walking trails" just as enjoyable, known and walked by the locals for many generations still remains un-chartered territory for the foreign visitor today.

Over the last few years, we have thoroughly enjoyed discovering new walks in the South. Now we are ready to share them with you. We invite you to follow our footsteps into villages still following the old traditions and into countryside as virginal and beautiful as any. We will show you some secret places we have shared with no one else - until now.

Months for serious walking: All months apart from late June, July and August & early September , as the temperatures are too high to make it enjoyable and safe.
